The more I travel, the more I realize that life presents many difficult choices. For example, when visiting a new city, after a long day of travel in a retrofitted school bus, you may find yourself famished and exhausted. Selecting a restaurant can be tricky...does the speed of the service match your desire? Will the food meet your expectations? And most importantly, will the food give you diarrhea?
(Apologies: That may be graphic, but any traveler in the developing world asks this question, hopefully in their head.)
Fortunately, this is not a tale of diarrhea. Instead, it is the tale of making the tough choice when a country of very, very few major music concerts schedules 2 for the SAME night.
In one corner, we have Pitbull. The oh-so-endearing Pitbull, with the intoxicating 1-2-3-4. Yes, it is the song of the summer here in Guatemala.
In the other corner, we have Wisin & Yandel. Arguably, they are one of the best acts in reggaeton. Everyone has heard "Rakata" -- and yes, some people sneer in distaste for reggaeton, but those people would fall into the "musically judgmental" category:)
What is a serious-minded world geography teacher to do? This is important cultural research and demands deliberation. In the end, Wisin & Yandel prevailed. The opportunity to see such a groundbreaking group trumped my desire to hear Pitbull recite 1-2-3-4 multiple times, in person.
So, Thursday night I will be enjoying my VIP ticket to the Wisin & Yandel concert. And of course, I appreciate that it is considerably cheaper than a nosebleed seat at the Verizon Center. On with the cultural research...
can NOT STAND reggaeton!!! call me musically judegemental if you want. love tons of different kinds of music but can not believe you are going to hear this reggaeton LIVE! you are sure to have a great time, i mean, since you like that music. take pics and make sure you get a pic of you all snazzied up for the concert. can't believe your time there is coming to a close. off to scuba diving where i'm sure it will be another wonderful adventure. oh, i almost forgot....glad you didn't end up with "the rea!"

p.s. ava loves her "india shoes." she wore them to church this past sunday and the ladies in her children's class got a kick of her answer to their question, "ava, where did you get your shoes? they're so cute." thinking they would hear, tjmax, target, etc. ava very simply said, "india," like it was so normal to say "india." it was hilarious.
Yes, quite the dilemma....but surely telling the kids you saw "Pitbull" in concert....just by name alone would give you 10 extra cool points! LOL
